Nokia Asha 303 Price Specifications
However, Nokia recently re-launched its S40 platform with the Asha vary of phones. Branded as feature phones, the Asha vary has the design and feel of a smartphone while not very ticking all the boxes. the foremost premium of all the Asha phones is that the Asha 303. This full QWERTY-touchscreen phone incorporates a 1GHz processor, and guarantees to be the mother of all feature phones. Recently launched in India, here's what you'll be able to expect from the Asha 303.
First impressions

Resembling the E6 in additional ways in which than one, the Asha 303 sports a two.6-inch capacitive touchscreen and slightly compressed QWERTY keypad. though looks-wise it is not as slim and premium because the E6 (which resembled the BlackBerry daring 9900), it still manages to seem comparatively elegant with its swish plastic end and brushed-metal back cowl. The touchscreen is positioned a couple of millimetre higher than the keypad giving the impression of a QWERTY slider just like the BlackBerry Torch.

Nokia recently launched its new smartphone Asha 303 on S40 operating platform . The phone comes with a one Ghz processor and QWERTY keypad .Critics might speak and believe Nokia’s approach for launching new mobile phones with S40 platform when the market is absolutely compatible with S60 and Android operating platform , however there's definitely some reasons behind it.

Below the touchscreen are a row of physical buttons for decision and finish and 2 shortcuts for mentioning Messaging and also the Music Player. The buttons and also the keyboard are backlit.

There's not a lot of selection within the obtainable ports: on the highest you get a three.5 mm headphone jack, a mini USB port for information transfers and also the normal Nokia thinpin charging slot. the proper facet holds a volume rocker switch and screen lock button. the rear panel is sort of plain with the exception of a three.2-meg camera (no flash though) and a dotted speaker grille at rock bottom.
User interface

Previous S40 users are going to be in for a pleasing surprise: Nokia has redesigned the interface to mimic Nokia Belle, with similar dedicated icons and widgets. there is solely one homescreen however that may be customised with widgets and icons of your selection. there is conjointly a replacement swipe gesture which may be customised to refer apps of your selection. therefore on my review unit a swipe right remarked the messaging menu and a swipe left opened the camera. below the homescreen are 3 bit buttons for a shortcut menu, the most menu and contacts.

However , S40 may be a software platform and application user interface (UI) software on Nokia’s broad vary of mid-tier feature phones, also as on the Vertu line of luxury phones. it's such an operating platform that's widely employed in the planet and located in many several devices. Mobile phones with S40 OS was officially unveiled in 1999 with the discharge of the Nokia 7110.

It supports communication applications like phonephone, net telephony (VoIP), messaging, email consumer with POP3 and IMAP4 capabilities and internet browser; It supports basic file management like in Series sixty phones. User-installed applications on Series forty are usually mobile Java applications. Flash Lite applications also are supported, however they're principally used for screen-savers.

Nokia had mentioned that the phone would support Mail for Exchange, their push mail service, however it's like that feature are going to be delayed till the second quarter of this year. but there's still a Mail app that enables you to configure any email account. you will not get push mail notifications however it works quite well if you refresh it manually each once during a whereas.

Apart from these apps, there is a built-in Music Player and FM Radio, in conjunction with a bunch of apps and games. i attempted taking part in Angry Birds Worms 2011 Armageddon on the phone however the little size of the touchscreen and therefore the inability to pinch/tap to zoom created it quite troublesome. Zenga TV is another pre-installed app that permits you to stream live TV. I managed to stream MTV while not buffering on 2G speeds, though the pictures did seem terribly pixelated and volume levels were low. The Nokia Browser is vastly improved with an integrated search/address bar.

The 3.2-meg fastened focus camera is pretty good, and offers a bunch of frames and effects. It works quite well in low-light too and is maybe one in all the higher feature phone cameras I've used. there is additionally the choice of VGA video recording at 15fps.

Performance
The Asha 303 will have a 1GHz processor, however it's a shame that S40 doesn't support multi-tasking nevertheless, therefore you do not extremely feel the advantages. There were no network problems with the Asha 303 and decision quality was crisp and clear, though lacking slightly in loudness.Battery life sadly mimics smartphone standards. I got alittle but twenty four hours of juice with Social, Mail and WhatsApp connected, additionally to calls and texts.
Our verdict

With nice appearance, an improved user interface and integrated social networking, the Asha 303 sounds like the simplest feature phone out there. And in my opinion, the engaging pricing makes it trump budget smartphones too.

Love: Improved S40 interface, nice choice of apps

Hate: Average battery life, no multitasking

Series 40 is a simpler operating system than S60. Because S40 devices do not support true multi-tasking and do not have a native code API for third parties.

The touchscreen is quite smooth and meets your finger with a slight haptic feedback. However it's not always responsive and I found that on occasion I did have to use a bit more pressure than I normally would need on a touchscreen. Given the fact that this is a QWERTY device too though, this can be forgiven.

The keys are a bit smaller than usual and might feel a bit cramped for those with big hands. Overall I found it quite comfortable to type on, although the keys do require a bit of a hard press.
Media and apps

The USP of the Nokia Asha 303 is the fact that it comes pre-loaded with the most commonly used smartphone apps. So you have WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and Email already installed on the phone. While WhatsApp has a slightly different user interface than what's normally seen on S40 phones, social networking comes integrated under Social. Similar to the Ovi Social app seen on the E6, on the Asha 303 you can configure Facebook, Twitter and Orkut (although only one of each account). The app, like before, is a bit slow and doesn't do the job of automatic updates too well. I tried it on a GPRS and high-speed Wi-Fi connection, and it lagged on bot. You don't get alerts of new notifications, although there is a widget you can add on the homescreen. Again, here you can only configure one social networking account and the refresh rate is quite slow.
